This policy explains what LoreGenerator collects when you use this site, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read rather than skimmed past. The short version: you can use every name generator on this site without giving us anything at all — no account, no email address, no sign-up. We do not gate tools behind a form and we do not intend to.
Who we are
LoreGenerator is a collection of name generators and curated name lists for tabletop roleplaying, fiction and worldbuilding, published at https://loregenerator.com. For any question about this policy or about data we hold, contact support@loregenerator.com.
What we collect
Nothing is required to use the generators. Names are generated and displayed to you without an account, and the words you type into a generator’s context box are used to produce your result. We do not require you to identify yourself in order to use any tool on this site.
We do collect the following:
- Newsletter details, only if you give them. The signup form in the site footer asks for a name and an email address. It is entirely optional, and it exists solely to send occasional updates about new generators and name lists. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
- Standard analytics data. Like almost every website, we record aggregate information about visits: pages viewed, approximate location at country or city level, referring site, device type, browser and similar technical details. This is used to understand which generators people find useful and which pages are broken. We do not use it to identify individuals.
- Server logs. Our host records routine technical information, including IP addresses, as part of operating and securing the site.
- Messages you send us. If you email us, we keep the message so we can reply.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties except as described in this policy.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses them in three ways: strictly necessary cookies that make pages work and remember preferences such as saved favourites; analytics cookies that help us count visits and understand which pages are used; and advertising cookies set by Google and its partners, described in the next section. You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings at any time. Blocking advertising and analytics cookies will not stop the generators from working.
Advertising and Google AdSense
This site displays advertising in order to remain free to use. We work with Google, and the following disclosures apply:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or to other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.com.
- Third-party advertising vendors and ad networks may also serve advertisements on this site and may themselves set cookies. This policy does not cover their practices; their own privacy policies govern how they operate.
More detail on how Google handles data when you use sites that use its services is available in Google’s partner-sites notice.
Third-party services we use
- Google AdSense — serves the advertising on this site and sets advertising cookies as described above.
- Google Analytics, via the Google tag — produces the aggregate visit statistics described above.
- Google Search Console — reports how the site appears in Google Search. It does not collect data about you directly from this site.
- Our hosting provider — stores the site and keeps standard server logs.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to how we use it, or to receive a copy of it. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area these rights arise under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR; if you are a California resident, comparable rights arise under the CCPA and CPRA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.
In practice, the only personal data we are likely to hold about you is a newsletter subscription, so most requests are resolved by unsubscribing or by asking us to delete your address. Email support@loregenerator.com and we will action any request within 30 days. If you are in the UK or EEA and are unhappy with our response, you may complain to your national data protection authority.
How long we keep things
Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form according to Google’s standard retention settings. Server logs are kept only as long as our host needs them for operational and security purposes. Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to deal with the matter.
Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@loregenerator.com and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
This site links to other websites, including reference material and resources for worldbuilders. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of sites we link to, and we would encourage you to read their policies before giving them information.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update the page and revise the date at the top. Material changes to how we handle personal data will be described here rather than made quietly.
